Making Anti-Aging Serums and Lotions Are Easy & Fun to Do!
The only thing you need to start out with is a base cream of your choosing! You can either buy one, or make your own, there are several websites that will teach you how to make a basic lotions base. However, I have found the perfect ingredient for an Anti-Aging base! In my opinion, there is nothing on the market that can compete with Emu Oil's properties as an Anti-Aging base. I know, because I make my own base creams, and or buy them. But I do recommend using a base cream for your everyday light lotion needs instead of your over the counter products that are usally made from minaral oil which is like putting plastic on your skin! You can find a base lotion made with much healthier oils see links (I like grape seed oil), and they have a lot less ingredients with higher strength active ingredients. See: Disclaimer for making your own serums.
The Reason why I use Emu-oil For My Anti-Aging Serums
What I Use As My Anti-Aging Base Serum
See: Emu-Oil for full information, or Emu Oil Products
How To Make Anti-Aging Serums With Emu Oil Yourself At Home!
For the Face: Using Emu-Oil as a base is so easy, because I really do not mix them together for my face in a separate bottle except for a few (see below) because when you use vitamins they will not stay fresh for very long and it is better to mix them in the palm of my hand, and apply them daily! I like mixing Emu-Oil with all of our skin rebuilding products, along with a few of my very own vitamins that I make my self at home just like you can, and I love using my Aloe Vera plant! I just cut a leaf off and smear it all over my face, than I apply my Emu Oil which penetrates deep into my skin!
For the Body: I use the Natural Emu-Oil because it is cheaper. I make up small batches of 4 to 6 oz jars at a time. I like to make my own because I know what my skin needs. I love the outside so I use a lot of ingredients that protect my skin from sun damage and age spots. I add this to a base cream (1/3 oz emu oil to my base cream) and add my other active ingredients, or just by its self for problem areas as a serum (1/3 oz emu oil to 3% and higher active ingredients)
Caution: Beware of what you are mixing with Emu Oil because of the highly penetrating and carrying properties it will penetrate most all ingredients including bacteria and toxins. And when absorbed through the skin it does not pass through the liver for filtration. So when making your own lotions, moisturizers, or anti-aging serums buy only AEA Certified Emu Oil, and make sure that the seal is displayed on the label and a batch number is on the bottle. You can also ask for a AOCS Certified Chemist tested certificate of analysis for the emu oil that you would like to buy from any AEA Certified Emu Oil suppliers which guarantees its authenticity and proper processing. Remember when mixing Emu Oil keep ingredients natural, fresh and do not let them go rancid, and always test a small amount on the skin first before making a large batch for skin irritation!
Note: Never mix alpha or beta hydroxy acids with Emu Oil. You will burn your skin! Always test a small area of the skin when using herbs before making a large batch! Some herbs can be irritating to the skin at a higher penetration factor.
Vitamins To Mix With Emu Oil Or Just Lotions (see link s where to buy ingredients)
You can also buy most vitamins from a health food store, drug store or online.
Vitamin C: I do not recommend making vitamin c at home because the ph varies in all vitamin c products. A high vitamin c ph can cause medium to high irritations. Vitamin c also looses it's strength very quickly! Vitamin c will oxidize when it is exposed to air and light! The cosmetic companies will not tell you about this, and it is very important the vitamin c in the product is still active when you buy! It is best to buy a vitamin c serum with a low ph for less irritation and buy smaller quantities for less of a chance for oxidation to occur, even though a high % always does... it does not stain and it washes off easily! If you do see oxidation than that means you got a product with a very high amount of vitamin c. I mix my vitamin c serum with emu oil for added penetration as needed. Away keep vitamin c in the refrigerator to help slow down the oxidation process! See: 20% Vitamin C Serum
Tetrahexyldecy Ascorbate: 600mg 1/8 teaspoon pure tetrahexldech ascorbate to 1 oz. A nonirritating, stable derivative of vitamin C. Which may be superior in all forms. Can be use alone or combined with other active ingredients. May lighten the skin as it inhibits the synthesis of skin pigment melanin.
Vitamin E: Take one 400 IU softgels vitamin E, only use a mix of (D-tocopherols and D-tocotrienols) Read the label, you want a pure and natural D form with out any additives in it! Or you can purchase a vitamin E product from a retailer on the Internet that sells products just for making your own creams. I am looking for one to carry in our product line as we speak!
Lycopene 15 mg: Three 5mg Softgels only! Mixes well with vitamin E, because it is the most potent antioxidant among carotenes. It has some UV blocking capacity (SPF of about 3) and may have the ability to improve some aspects of cell metabolism and cell-to-cell communications.
Vitamin A: One 10,000 IU soft gels vitamin A (Retinol or Vitamin A ester = palmitate or acetate) Do not get the product Retin A confused with vitamin A which are far less effective and not well substantiated for reversing the signs of aging! However appears somewhat more active than vitamin A esters. See this site for more information http://www.vitamins-supplements.org/retinyl-palmitate.php
All-trans retinoic acid (short: ATRA) retinoic acid, vitamin A acid and tretinoin also known as "Renova or Retin-A®" in anti-aging creams which is a derivative of vitamin A. It is also used to treat acute promyelocytic leukemia and acne in capsule from marketed as Vesanoid. It is made by the body and can also be made in the laboratory. See Rosehip Seed Oil for natural ATRA. for more information see this site: http://www.supplement-information-library.com/retinol.html
DMAE: 300-600 mg loose powder only which can be purchased on line. DMAE (bitartrate powder) is highly alkaline in its pure form and should never be used ! However only 35-37% of commonly sold DMAE is actual DMAE! So find out the percentage in the product and try not to go any lower then those percentages. It dissolves very easy! Start out with a very low percentage at first when using DMAE it may irritates your skin, and you can always add more… but you can not take it out! Mix up a small batch at a time.(1/8 teaspoon of powder to 1 oz of Emu Oil or ¼ teaspoon to 1 oz base cream.)
Lipoic Acid: 300-900 mg. Powder form only R (+) lipoid acid. Oil and water soluble. A natural occurring substance that may benefit the skin in several ways. Capable of neutralizing free radical, inhibits cross-linking which is damaging to cells and contributes to the aging process and helps cells produce more ATP-(a form of energy in cells) Start out with 300mg to 1 oz Emu Oil or base cream for about 1to 3 % strength. Note a good combination with DMAE.
CoQ10: 300mg softgel to 1 ozof emu oil or base cream. A natural vitamin like substance whose main role is to help the body produce APT-(form of energy) The body produces it own but as we age the production diminishes.

Aloe Vera Plant: Aloe Vera is a plant that looks like a cactus, but is actually a member of the lily family. Aloe Vera contains 75 known ingredients including:
Small-scale studies and anecdotal evidence suggests: that Aloe Vera may be beneficial in the following cases:
Hyaluronic Acid (HA): is a natural substance that is found in all living organisms. In skin tissue, it is a jelly-like substance that fills the space between collagen and elastic fire. Your Hyaluronic acid absorbs over 1000 times it weight in water allowing it to hydrate to skin. (Mix with a moisturizing cream, enhances plumpness of the skin!) It mixes great with Emu Oil and Aloe! See: 75% Hyaluronic Serum
Green Tea Extract: a strong antioxidant, protects DNA from structural damage and inhibits growth of bacteria and fungi.
Grape Seed Extract: a strong antioxidant similar to green tea extract!
Comfrey leaves, Root and Tea: Allantoin is the key ingredient found in abundance in comfrey. Allantoin helps cells to grow and grow together. Since this is precisely what is needed for burns, sores, broken skin, broken bones and perhaps even malignancy. Use leaves as a paste and apply.
Sage, leaves and Tea: Latin for "to save or to heal," This wounderful herb should be in everyones garden! It is often used as an herbal remedy for afflictions including gas, bloating, poor appetite and excessive sweating. The essential oil of sage contains alpha- and beta-thujone, camphor, and cineole, which are antioxidant and antimicrobial agents. The volatile oils in sage kill bacteria, making the herb useful for all types of bacterial infections. Great for burns, sores, as a hair rinse for dandruff, oily hair, or infections of the scalp and it lightens age spots. You can use the leafs right off the plant (crush leaves first) and apply onto skin for burns and sores. Use the tea to lighten age spots. see skin lighteners
Chickweed leaves and Tea: High in Vitamin C, & B, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. It relieves pain in addition to stiumlating healing as soon as it's applied as a poultice from the leaves to treat cuts, wounds, and bruises. Good for skin diseases, due to its astringent properties treats eczema and psoriasis. And the tea added to the bath is good for soothing skin irritations and rashes, including diaper rash.

Making Your Own Herbal Oils (essential oils), Moisturizer and Waters.
They really are very easy and fun to do! My son loves to make and name his own cologne! The girls never stop calling and he is only in the 7th grade. We gather the herbs, flowers, bark, and spices in the morning... its time we both like spending together. Than he smells everything, selects the ones he wants and adds them to the oil. As the weeks go buy he adds more and more till he get's the fragrance he likes. Its fun for the whole family! Everyone seems to get involved to express their ideals on the mixtures at hand and to shake the oils.
